The prototype stage is complete for the first LG Signature Oled TV. Marketed in the first half of 2019 in the best case, this slab is the most beautiful screen of the future.
The South Korean company LG created the event with its OLED TV at the electronics show, the Consumer Electronic Show 2019 (CES), in the United States. Preview last year as a prototype, the great feature of this model is to be fully rollable and retractable so as to disappear in his furniture. This time, it is the final model, ready to be marketed, and the effect is guaranteed!
The 65-inch screen is mounted on a box used as a base and can hide it when it is rolled up (Zero view mode). This box also contains a 100 Watt sound bar, compatible with Dolby Atmos 4.2. The system requires about 10 seconds to wrap or unwind the screen (Full View mode), and the manufacturer claims to have tested this system thousands of times without any problem. LG has also planned another position, with only a quarter of the visible screen (Line view mode) for other uses as a simple connected object to listen to his music. It allows, for example, to display the current song, time and offers other widgets.
The characteristics of the screen have not changed compared to the prototype. It’s still a 65-inch OLED 4K screen (3.840 x 2.160 pixels) and LG says it retains image quality comparable to that of the other high-end TVs by the brand in terms of brightness and contrast . It contains the same A9 processor as other TVs marketed in 2019, and integrates HDMI 2.1, as well as Alexa’s assistant and Apple’s AirPlay 2. It will be possible to order it by voice and to take advantage of the latest developments in speech recognition.
The exact launch date is not yet known, LG just announcing a spring availability. The big unknown is still the price, which should be “premium”. Comparing to LG’s 4K “wallpaper” TV, marketed at 8,000 euros, the rating is likely to be very salty.
